5-AMINOLOVULINIC ACID (ALA)
P acne treatment is not easy and requires multiple plans of attack to properly beat it without permanent scars. Photodynamic Therapy (PDT for short) is a non-invasive acne treatment that utilizes a blue LED light to activate a medication called 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA). PDT with ALA can effectively treat mild to moderate acne in as little as 4-8 treatments. LED therapy known as PDT utilizes Aminolevulinic acid (ALA) and Blue light (-41Onm wavelength) . The effect of Blue light on acne is quite modest but is improved over time when preceded by application of ALA. PDT involves 2 protocols, i.e. incubation time (duration of ALA left on the skin) and exposure time (duration client spends in front of a Blue light source). This therapy treats acne prone skin to shrink oil glands and minimize colonies of bacteria responsible for acne.
Blue LED light with ALA penetrates the dermis to kill the bacteria that causes acne breakouts (P. acnes). The P. acnes bacteria can grow in the hair follicles and cause inflammation , which then blocks pores and turns into inflamed pimples. Also, it shrinks the sebaceous (oil-producing) glands of the skin. This reduces acne by decreasing the amount of oil in each pore (The acne bacteria thrives on oil.) Staying away from bright light sources such as sunlight , bright indoor lighting, computer screen, would be advisable for the first 48 hours.
Eucalyptus Oil is a natural antiseptic with antifungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties making it highly effective in treating wounds, acne and skin infections. Eucalyptus oil help destroy bacteria clogging the pores and preventing it from spreading, making it an excellent natural treatment for acne. As an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, it not only helps to kill bacteria, but also to dry the blemished area and provide healing relief to irritated skin. Components of eucalyptus oil, such as eucalyptol and citronellal, have anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects, have antimicrobial effects against many strains of bacteria, viruses and fungi. When it’s used topically on the skin, eucalyptus can help to reduce muscle pain, soreness and swelling. Its astringent qualities help tighten tissues and stimulate healing blood flow.
